On 8 July 2022, the Youth Council received advocacy training by Youth Action NSW.

ICfE’s Youth Council was offered the opportunity by Youth Action NSW to take part in a workshop training day for the COVID Recovery Youth Engagement Toolkit.

This COVID Recovery Youth Engagement Toolkit was developed in response to the Covid-19 pandemic to support the inclusion of young people’s voices in the recovery planning for communities in Western and South-Western Sydney. The Toolkit can be used by youth advisory groups, local councils, youth and community sector organisations, government departments or other organisations wishing to involve young people in their work.

The Toolkit is based upon a strengths-based approach known as Appreciative Inquiry (AI) to include the voices of young people when planning for recovery. It can be extended to develop skills and strengthen community assets and resilience.

Youth Action NSW CEO, Kate Munro facilitated this workshop with the Youth Council. The feedback of the program and the facilitation was excellent and the Youth Council aims to apply what it has learned in its future programming.

Special thanks from all of us are extended to The Flagstaff Group for letting us use their Life Choices Hub Conference Room in Port Kembla for this training. Thank you to Rod Clarke, Executive Manager Life Choices at Flagstaff.
