Hi! My name is Julia, and I am a 22-year-old Uni student.
I have recently completed a Bachelor of Psychological Science/Bachelor of Social Science
(Sociology) at the University of Wollongong, which I began in 2018. Currently I work in the
field of administration, while simultaneously volunteering my time in the mental health
sphere.

Completing two degrees which uniquely focus on the development, structure and
functioning of mental health and society has fuelled my interest in working with young
adults. I have expanded my knowledge and skills through working with Youth Aware of
Mental Health (YAM), which is an evidence-based program taking place in schools around
Australia which helps students actively engage in topics of mental health through role-play
and student-led discussions. I’m also a proud volunteer for Inclusee, which is focused on
providing companionship for senior citizens to help reduce loneliness and isolation, while
also increasing their social connections and experiences. Volunteering at Hashworth
Psychology has also allowed me to develop my counselling skills, as I am a co-facilitator for
their DBT programs aimed at individuals with borderline personality disorder.

My path has helped me develop a passion for helping individuals, especially youth and
women, in accessing the mental health care they deserve. The Youth Council is a fantastic
program which will allow me to make a positive difference in the lives of those struggling
with mental health issues, and to create lasting change.
